The Eyes of the Amarylis by Natalie Babbitt

This book is similar to Tuck everlasting in that it is full of symbolism. The story is extremely interesting and teaches of eternal love, the spirit world, tranformations and the importance of being in tune with the spirit.

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle

This book is a great example of not only an symbolic book, but a book of Christian symbolism.

"Do you think things always have an explanation?"

"Yes I believe that they do. but I think that with our human limitations we're not always able to Understand
the explanations. But you see, Meg, just because we don't understand, doesn't mean that the explanation doesn't exist."

Quote #2

"There will no longer be so many pleasant things to look at if responsible people do not do something about the unpleasant ones."

Olivia is a wonderful story about a very curious little pig that reminds me so much of my own daugthers, I just can't get enough of the book. Look at the use on line and color in this illustration. What a stark contrast from curved natural lines to strong, straight man-made lines. Olivia is so small, but the use of color brings your eye directly to what is most important in this picture.

My Brother Martin

Usually a book read in February, but should be for the entire year. This book is a great perspective on Martin Luther King Jr.s life as a child.
